Seminole County Hosts the Annual Whole Community Exercise
To kick off the Atlantic hurricane season which begins June 1st, the Seminole County Office of Emergency Management will hold the annual “Whole Community Exercise” on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 8:00 am-1:00 pm at the Hilton Orlando/Altamonte at 350 Northlake Boulevard.
The exercise will bring non-profit and faith based organizations together to learn how they can play an important part in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Government agencies rely on these partnerships to provide critical services before, during and after disasters. Participants will hear from guest speaker David Canther, President and Founder of ACTS World Relief, as well as four disaster response ministries and non-profit leaders.
Finally, participants will engage in a mock-disaster scenario followed by facilitated discussions. This will put these disaster response teams to the test. They will learn how to coordinate volunteer skills and provide services after a disaster. One of the focuses of the event is to compile a directory of the skills and services that each of the organizations is able to provide in the event of a disaster.
