FWC schedules aquatic plant control on St. Johns River
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will conduct aquatic plant control on a 20-mile section of the St. Johns River in Brevard and Seminole counties Oct. 8-12, weather permitting.
The treatment to control invasive water hyacinth and water lettuce will be conducted on targeted areas of the river, starting south of Highway 520 and continuing north along the river until about 3 miles north of Jim’s Creek.
The herbicides being used are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. There are no restrictions on using the river for fishing, swimming or irrigation during and following the treatment.
