City of Sanford seeks state funding for hurricane mitigation of WWTP
The City of Sanford has applied for grant funding through the GIP to assist with hurricane mitigation at the Sanford North Water Reclamation Facility. As part of the application process, the City is required to post information about the project and receive feedback from the public for 14-days.
The wastewater facility is located on the shore of Lake Monroe which is a part of the St. John's River within the 100-year floodplain. The project includes the following improvements: Stabilization of the Mill Creek drainage canal that bisects the facility to prevent further erosion that would endanger existing structures; replacement of a bridge within the facility that was built in the 1960s and is in need of replacement; relocation of the facility control room to the second floor of an existing building; and relocation of vulnerable electrical equipment to an elevated and enclosed location in an existing structure.
