New studies underway to help update Seminole County floodplain maps
Hurricane Ian caused widespread flooding across Central Florida.
A good number of homeowners saying they didn't even consider flood insurance based on the available flood maps.
Some people are well aware of the flood risk in their neighborhood, but many others are not.
"People have to know the truth, and we want to give them all the information we have," said Lee Constantine, a Seminole County commissioner.
Ian was a monster when it came to rainfall. There was widespread flooding.
Seminole County's in the middle of basin studies, using the latest technology to evaluate risk.
It will submit its findings to Federal Emergency Management Agency to possibly update floodplain maps so people can better evaluate their flood risk.
