Brown water flows after hydrants damaged in Winter Springs

WINTER SPRINGS – After brownish water started coming out of faucets Monday in the Oak Forest community, questions about water quality in Winter Springs are being asked again.

Oak Forest residents say discolored water started coming out of their faucets Monday

Winter Springs city officials said it was caused by maintenance being done on fire hydrants

They said sulfur and iron knocked loose during the work is what caused water color to change

City leaders said ongoing construction and maintenance damaged two of the city’s fire hydrants. According to the city’s utilities director, Bilal Iftikhar, the discolored water was caused by iron and sulfur that was knocked loose in the lines.

However, since the lines never lost pressure, he said a water boil notice was not needed.
