Study shows seagrass growth up 72% in Indian River Lagoon

Families on the Space Coast are seeing more sea creatures in their own backyards."The fish are coming back," Joseph Smith said. "I did happen to see an article about the seagrass coming back, and I’m loving that because it just helps all the wildlife."

Smith has lived off the Banana River on a small canal for 30 years. He said he's seen the changes.

Jennifer McDonald has lived on the water for six years."Definitely a lot more activity as far as dolphins, which is probably a daily occurrence. Then you have your manatees," McDonald said. "We do see things coming back to life, and they don’t look old and brown anymore.

A new study by the St. Johns River Water Management District said seagrass growth is up 72%. The district has been monitoring lagoon seagrass and has seen continued expansion.
